Earthquake relief...

Earlier today (May 12), a 7.9 magnitude earthquake struck in the Sichuan Province of China. The epicenter of the earthquake was was around Wechuan, about 100 km northwest of Chengdu. A second shock wave of magnitude 5.9 has also already hit the region. Thousands of people have been killed in this tragedy. Our heartfelt condolences go out to all in the region that are affected and their familes. At Angel Covers, we are all very concerned about this region and the devastation that is occuring. It will be some time before we know the full extent of the damage. We are currently working to get updates on students in our programs in Chengdu and in the surrounding regions of the Sichuan, and Qinghai provices. We are hopeful that they are great enough distances away that they have not been affected by the earthquakes but understand there is loss of life in these areas. As we continue to assess the situation and the needs, we are establishing an Angel Covers Earthquake Fund that will help us to act quickly when we know what is needed. Update 7:30 MDT - Contact has been made with Jian Cuo, who heads the Mama's Wish Foundation in China. He reports that all schools in the QingHai province are fine. Contact has also been established with two of the college students in Chengdu. They report that they are well. The students slept outside last night for safety. Latest news reports over 1 dozen aftershocks.

Update 9:00 MDT - All Mama's Wish students and teachers have been accounted for and are safe.
