In a
world where there is so much to be done. I felt strongly impressed that
there
must be something for me to do. -- Dorothea Dix
I always knew there was a lot for us to do when we started Angel
Covers. Somedays, I am amazed at not how much there is for us to
do, but how much we are able to accomplish. At times it is
tiring, but much of the time it is exciting and energizing as things
happen and we see positive changes made in the lives of children.
The last couple of months have been nothing short of tiring, exciting
and energizing all at the same time.
I am excited to update you on Huaibei. The stainless steel cribs
have been ordered along with some new beds for the older
children. If they haven't arrived yet, they will within the next
couple of days! It is wonderful to think that these babies will
no longer be falling out of cribs, teething on the wood and potentially
ingesting lead, or getting splinters from the wooden cribs.
Project Tigger has
also reached another milestone. We have ordered another 250
bouncers, which will be shipped to 10 different orphanages in
China. That's another 250 babies that can be out of cribs and
receiving additional stimulation in China. We are excited to see
this project continue, and the orphanages are thrilled to receive
them. This project is ongoing, and continues to be a partnership
with Love Without Boundaries (http://lovewithoutboundaries.com).
We know that we will be sending more bouncers to orphanages in China
and one day we will reach the level of donations required to purchase
bouncers for orphanages in Russia.
Africa has been exciting for us during the past couple of months.
We have been working with a school and two orphanages. In Uganda,
we were excited to establish a chicken program for an orphanage in
Lira. Angel Covers was able to purchase supplies to build
necessary coops, and 100 chickens that have been immunized and are
ready to lay eggs. The chicken coops were completed last week,
and the chickens were purchased the beginning of this week. What an
exciting way to make a difference for these kids. This project
will provide the orphanage with a source of food, as well as some
income from the sale of eggs. Angel Covers has established a fund
for the ongoing assistance of the RACIN
Home (Reaching At Childen In Need) and we look forward to
continuing to work with them. There are many ongoing needs at the
RACIN Home. If you can make a difference in the lives of these
children, please mark your donation RACIN.
Our work with Holly House in Nairobi, and the Galilee School that many of
the children attend will be expanding in the future. We have
found sponsorship for two more children to be able to attend school at
the Galilee Secondary School. There are still many that need
secondary school sponsorship, and we will continue to work to find them
sponsors. Please contact us if you can help. Sponsorship
for secondary school only costs $12.50 each month! Many of the
sponsors of other children would like to do more for Holly House and
the school so a fund for these programs has been established. The
fruit program has been started at Holly House, so each of the 18
children living there will receive fresh fruit daily. Some of the
children attend school, but not all of them have textbooks and the
school does not have desks for all of the children. There are
many needs to be met, and we are excited to be a part of these
childrens' future. If you would like to help with their needs
just mark your donation
for Holly House or Galilee School.
We are also very excited this month to introduce you to another
orphanage and school in Uganda, and Amy, who will be working as our
coordinator for Africa projects. Amy has a passion for the
Maranatha orphanage and school in Uganda, and orphans in Africa in
general. We are extremely excited to have her working with
us. Maranatha serves 422 children, but does not have the
resources to handle them. They are in need of very basic things
like food, clean drinking water, and places for the children to go to
the bathroom. Currently, they have 7 outhouses for the children
to use, but 12 are needed for the number of children they serve.
The kids are becoming ill because the conditions are not
sanitary. We are working on ways to raise the awareness of their
needs and finding funds to help the staff improve the conditions for
these children. Donations should
be marked Maranatha if you are able to help this on-going project.
Russia is one area where we know of great needs but have not been able
to focus on due to our lack of resources. We are overjoyed this
month to introduce you to Barb, who has agreed to work with us as our
coordinator for Russia projects. Barb is full of ideas and
enthusiasm and will bring great things to the children and orphanages
in Russia. She will be traveling to Russia this summer to deliver
needed items as well as evaluate the needs of various orphanages across
the country. We are planning to begin on-going programs such as
supplying needed formula and vitamins to children in Russia, support
for children with HIV/AIDS, and building playgrounds for various
orphanages across the country. If you would like to support Barb
and our work in Russia, please mark you donation for
Russia and we will be sure to put it to good use.
With Mother's Day approaching, we want to remind you of a wonderful way
to honor mothers and help children at the same time. Gift Cards are a
wonderful way to say I Love You and Happy Mother's Day. Look for
a new gift card to appear this week. For $25 we can purchase
several toys for Holly House in Nairobi where the children do not have
them. If you would like to donate to purchase toys in someones
name, just mark the donation Holly House Toys from the donation page,
until we get webpage for Gift Cards updated.
I would also like to take the opportunity to let you know about the new
sandals
and squeaky
shoes that have recently arrived. We were very excited by the
new styles the factories have produced for the summer, and are pleased
to offer them as a way to raise support for children.
Dorthy Dix was right when she said there is so much to do that there
must be something for me. There is something for anyone who wants
to get involved. We all have different roles to play in
life. Some, like Amy and Barb, will devote their time and energy
to improving the lives of children. Others will find smaller
roles helping organize specific fund raisers, and yet others may simply
send a donation. What ever you find your role in doing something
to be, we thank you for your support and welcome your
partnership. Let us know if you need help refining your passion
to help children. There is always work to be done!
